Friday Night at the Aladdin
One of our favorite music venues is the historic Aladdin
Theater in southeast Portland. Over the years we’ve
seen a number of acts ranging from Freedy Johnston, Colin Meloy, The Fixx, Toad the Wet Sprocket, Son Volt and most recently Alejandro Escovedo. We’ve also seen comic Craig
Ferguson.
Of course this is only a sampling of the acts that play at
this small intimate setting each year. Including
the balcony, there’s not a bad seat in the house and restorers kept much of the
original atmosphere in place. You can really
feel the history: Historic Aladdin Theater
Doors open after dark after the time change and we tend
to see most of our shows here during fall and winter. The shortest day of the year is a good time to
honor the Aladdin Theater. My latest painting
features the marquee lighting up the crisp dark sky.
It’s 24”x 30” acrylic on canvas.
