New Day and finishing the Counter Balance Project

A month ago I said I’d be back in a week.  Well, I got sidetracked. Between yard work, Memorial
Day weekend fun and a developing life change - my painting went a little sideways.  After dabbling in inconsistency with my personal fitness program, I’m now fully committed to an exercise regimen that is early morning based and my evenings got a bit shorter  (no more midnight -1am painting sessions).  Now I’m back! Since we’re in the midst of change I thought maybe it’s time I didn’t post on “throwback Thursday.” Don’t get me wrong – I love seeing everyone’s old Polaroid’s come back to life.  But in order to get my viewership up to 12 or 15 – I can’t compete against dated shots of young skinny people with big hair. So I’m making a change from throwback Thursday to Super Tuesday!  And the sun is shining and I’m working out every day.  You might say this is the dawn of a new “Dave.”  Okay, I admit that’s too much.

Remember the story? - Counter Balance, Flintstone technology?  (see previous post).

This is actually part two of two.  I had this idea which is now obvious to everyone.  I’ve taken a scene of Queen Anne Avenue as it descends its namesake hill.  I’ve depicted the same viewpoint from both the late 1930’s and today.  Only I did this with the commonality of color and painting technique.  I wanted a more true comparison for my viewers.  Something more than the cliché retro b/w photo next to the modern color photo.  I wanted people to see that changes to building structures and culture do not alter the essence of this spectacular view.  In many ways it is the same as it was seventy-five years ago and that’s pretty cool.

So for you nine, ten or even eleven folks who dared to stay tuned this last month – I present to you the two pieces of “the Counter Balance.”

Acrylic on Canvas:  Each piece is 24”x 24”  Painted around the sides – no need for framing.
