Shadows of Augusta

Holiday Gift?   Anyone?  Anyone?  Bueller?  Bueller?

Most people who golf (and I mean a lot) are familiar with this scene.  For those who aren’t familiar, it’s the 16th green at Augusta National in Augusta, Georgia. This is where “The Masters” is played and it’s the first of the year’s four “major” tournaments.  Most of you know this, and may even recognize Phil Mickelson from a couple of years ago when he won this thing for a third time.  Of course I realize some of you couldn't care less.  The fact remain many passionate golfers consider Augusta National the most beautiful course in the world.  It’s the only “Major” played at the same course every year and it was designed and created by golf legend Bobby Jones in 1934.  There's a reason CBS says “a tradition like no other.”

My objective?  I wanted to capture both the beauty and history of the Masters by painting the 16th green and including some of golf’s greatest legends in the "shadows".  I wanted to illustrate that Mickelson is just one in a long line of golf greats who have won here multiple times:  Snead, Hogan, Palmer, Player, Nicklaus and Woods have all walked this green on the final day on their way to victory.  Most golfers know this, while some, well, they couldn’t care less.

For those who couldn’t care less…maybe you know that certain special someone who does.  There are plenty of middle-aged baby boomer golf fanatics who live each day of each week anticipating their weekend escape to golf courses across America.  For many of these weekend warriors, Augusta and the Masters symbolizes a weird golf spiritual expression of the game itself.   Misplace priorities? Maybe.  Then again maybe this painting will help “ease their pain.”
Please excuse the cropping and angle - I wanted my audience of eight (just kidding,..there are at least,... well more), to see the frame - it's a big part of the piece.

This painting is acrylic on masonite 23" x  27" completely original image with a vintage "dark wood" frame simulated to match the dark reddish wood furniture in Club House of Augusta National.  Open to offers:
