Cinema 21: fun size
Size doesn’t matter. Case in point is this 10” x 12” (framed) painting of northwest Portland’s Cinema 21.
Opening in February 1925 as the State Theatre, (Cinema 21) originally offered 730 seats plus a William Wood theatre organ. It was renamed Vista Theatre in 1941 and in 1942 became the 21st Avenue Theatre. It became Cinema 21 in 1962. This neighborhood treasure is located in a thriving area of northwest Portland at 616 NW 21st Avenue (97209). At night the glowing neon light serves as a beacon amongst restaurants, bars and shops.
Today Cinema 21 www.cinema21.com shows first run movies and a few classics as well. It also hosts several film festivals during the year including the Oregon Independent Film Festival. There are three screens, 640 seats and beer and wine to further enhance your big screen experience. Nice.
Again: fun size. This painting resides in a beautiful gold recycled frame acquired at a second hand store. It’s 10” x 12” and can sit on a table, desk or be hung on a wall. Acrylic paint on glass - so be careful.
Size doesn’t matter. That’s what I tell myself.
