Fore! for four
Commemorating a dream golf vacation to Scotland and Ireland.
Yep. This really happened. Four golf vacation paintings for four golfing buddies. Look closely - they are all different, all unique. I never did a project even close to this and to be honest - I probably won't do it again. Still we all have to try everything at least once right? Well almost everything. (Never say Never)
"We" Trace Jacobs (my client) and I first decided on size and price. The we agreed on the basic layout. I suggested the legendary Swilcan Bridge at St Andrews http://www.standrews.com/ as a backdrop and he agreed. It's always a bit tricky when doing commission work. I want the freedom to create but at the same time - the end result must be an extremely happy client. I created the first draft for approval and once recieved - I moved forward with the others.
The scene: I mixed their "team" photo with other photos to create a scene repeated for generations by golf's greatest legends and traveling weekend warriors. Trace shared photos of taverns and places they visited. Obviously everything can't be included so I selected scenes that worked for composition, color and built vignettes. I also custom built and painted each frame inspired by the old wood and feel of the Irish Pub.
The common objective. For each recipient/owner of each painting - we wanted an original painting to commemorate a moment in time that will hang in an office, den, or game room or maybe even in a hallway at a golf club. Photos are great but they are also commonplace. We wanted something unique that will last forever - handed down through generations perhaps. Most of all we wanted something people would notice and invite conversation.
Again Fore! for four.
