Spring Break and memories of the Oregon Coast
Yes, it’s Spring Break in Portland Oregon! Considering the snow we had this week you’d think we were months from a day like this. What a Saturday folks, and what a way to start Spring Break! For many of us Oregon inlanders, the first sunny days of spring seem to draw us to the Coast. The mountains are still full of snow, so relief and the promise of summer lies at the Oregon Coast. At least that’s what I think.
It’s in that spirit I created “Memories of the Oregon Coast.” This 25”x 44” piece is painted on canvas with acrylic paint and is soon to be framed. Being a “man of a certain age” I get a little reflective and wanted to capture the generational romance Oregonians have with their coast. Set in the backdrop of a typical morning on the beach I painted multiple images I think most of us have when we think of the Oregon Coast. You should recognize Yaquina Bay, Mo’s, log trucks, Haystack rock split between dawn and fog, Heceta Head light house, clam diggers at low tide in Siletz Bay, and the Depoe Bay bridge. I even included a very personal image of my Grandparents at the beach in 1919 aside a typical couples snapshot today. You might say “Memories of the Oregon Coast” is a romantic cornucopia of images we all share. At least that’s I think.
